Raja Rani Movie Review
Raja Rani is a super hit in Tamil and the Telugu dubbed version of it is out in theaters now.
What is it about?
John (Arya) and Regina (Nayanatara) marries to make their respective parents happy. They don't like each other and live separately under the same roof. They both have bad experiences in their love life and couldn't get along with each other. How do they fall in love in with each other forms rest of the story.
Performances:
Arya is very good in the lead role. This character is tailor made for him. His performance in the flashback scenes is very impressive. Nayanatara is at her best in this film. Her performance is flawless and she owns this show. She is the real 'Rani' of this movie. Jai is in his elements in a comical yet romantic role. Nazriya is gorgeous and makes an impact in her brief appearance. Satya Raj and Santanam added weight to the proceedings.
Technicalities:
Director Atlee is a protege of Tamil director Shankar. He chose a light hearted romantic entertainer to make his debut and his command over the script is commendable. There are many moments that show the brilliance of this young director. Story of the film is wafer thin, but he has handled it excellently. There are few hiccups in the middle, but on a whole it is more than a decent debut from Atlee.
GV Prakash Kumar's music is not so pleasing. Better audio album could have done wonders to this film. Editing is not up to the mark. The film drags on in many sequences. Raja Rani’s Cinematography is vibrant true to its genre. Murugadoss must be lauded for backing this modern age love story.
Analysis:
Raja Rani will surely appeal to the urban youth and for the audiences who prefer romantic comedies. It moves at a snail pace at times, but the director never lets the audience to lose interest in the proceedings. Love stories are handled quite well. Nayan-Jai love story is good and Arya-Nazriya love story is alright.
Catfights between Arya and Nayanatara are funny and set the right mood for the film. However, the realization part and falling in love again is not presented well. Director could have let alone Rom-com cliches to make it more refreshing. The film is also over long with so many scenes unnecessarily dragged.
Trimming down the film by at least fifteen to twenty minutes will make it far better than what it is now. Despite the shortcomings, Raja Rani has enough to make you sit till the end and cherish the romantic moments. Most of the married couples can relate to this subject and that makes this movie special. It has been a while since we had seen a decent film in Telugu. Although a dubbed movie, Raja Rani will quench the thirst of our audience. Go and fall in Love.
Verdict: This Love story has Life in it!
