After Nagarjuna announced a multistarrer project starring
three generations of his family on his home banner Annapurna Studios, Vikram
Kumar was recruited to direct the film, thanks to the script he penned for the
film and his previous successful film Ishq. After much speculation, the film's
title was announced as Manam in March 2013. The film was launched in Annapurna
Studios on June 3, 2013. Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Nagarjuna, Naga Chaitanya and
Vikram Kumar, along with personalities of Tollywood, participated in the
function. In August 2013, a photo shoot was conducted on Akkineni Nageswara Rao
and Nagarjuna before they enter the sets of the film for regular shoot. After
the release of the first look, it was reported that Manam was based on the
English Sci-fi movie Back to the Future and that Akkineni Nageswara Rao would
play the role of Nagarjuna's son and Nagarjuna would play the role of Naga
Chaitanya's son, a complete reversal of the reality.
